About image formats
JPG (.jpg / .jpeg)
Lossy compression that's tuned for photos. Small files, no transparency, slight quality loss each time it's re-saved. Best for camera photos and complex images destined for the web or email.
PNG (.png)
Lossless compression with full alpha transparency. Larger files than JPG/WebP, but pixel-perfect — ideal for screenshots, logos, icons and graphics with sharp edges or text.
WebP (.webp)
Modern format that beats both JPG and PNG in most cases — smaller files at the same quality, supports transparency, and is supported by every current browser. The best general-purpose web format today.
GIF (.gif)
Limited 256-color palette and lossless. Useful for very simple graphics or legacy compatibility. Animated GIFs aren't preserved here — only the first frame is exported.
